The CKK was born in July 2014 created by producers of the Lubero and the Bashu regions in the province of North Kivu, near Virunga National Park. This coffee was grown between 1350 and 1850 MASL.\u003cbr\u003eMembers are divided per micro-washing station and the coop is involved in production, collection, processing and marketing of the members’ coffee.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe coop was created with the goal of restoring hope to the coffee chain in a region of the country where the coffee sector was experiencing constant deterioration due to the civil war. This situation brought to a natural drop in quality, production, productivity and incentivized the smuggling of the coffee to Uganda.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2014 CKK had 13 washing stations and today has 36 operational locations. Another 58 are under construction. For years the tribe was forcibly involved in poppy and heroin production under the influence of guerrilla groups, drug traffickers, and paramilitaries. The once-peaceful mountains teemed with illegal plantations and violence, in which the Ingas were trapped until as recently as ten years ago. In the last decade the mountains have become a safe zone for the Inga tribe, and illegal crops were eradicated to give way to a new culture: coffee! The Caturra variety has been planted in the Inga territory at an average of 2150 meters above sea level. This elevation, combined with the Galeras Volcano constantly shedding nutrient-rich ash, makes for an exceptionally complex and sweet coffee. \u003c\/span\u003eBalanced, medium body, with notes of citrus, black tea, and stone fruit. The farm lies in the foothills of the Santiaguito volcano in western Guatemala, at 1,200 to 1,500 metres above sea level. Fully washed \u0026amp; sun dried on screens this Caturra and Catuaí is medium bodied, floral, and citric.
